Unless otherwise stated all our courses are designed to support anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer; whether you have had the diagnosis of cancer yourself or are supporting someone who has. We are aware that a diagnosis of cancer does not just affect the person diagnosed but impacts the family or those close to and supporting that person.
Some people prefer to come to courses on their own to give them time to focus on themselves and not worry about others. However, some people find it beneficial to come along with a supporter so that they both learn about the Bristol Approach and can support each other in putting it into practice when they return home.
We advise people to come as soon after diagnosis as they can so that they can benefit from the Bristol Approach immediately. However, the time you decide to come will be based around your treatment and how you are feeling. It is important that you are well enough to stay in hotel-type accommodation and do not need regular medical care. The courses do require you to be able to concentrate for extended periods of time. Please contact us to discuss the appropriateness of the course you would like to attend.
The courses we offer provide a space for support, information, sharing, personal exploration and an experience of the different terapies that are part of the Bristol Approach. The combination of all these elements, the environment, food and care, along with people coming together provides a rich, transformative and memorable experience.
When attending a residential course we ask you to use the time you have with us to focus on yourself. If you want to meet up with friends or family who live locally we suggest that you do so before the course starts. We strong advise you not to arrange to meet with people during the course as it can be disruptive to your experience. Many people like to take time after the course to let the experiences settle so you may find it best to allow for a quiet time when you arrive home.
During your stay with us the Nurse Therapist and Night Support Worker are available from 5.30pm to 9.00am and we have on-call cover with a local GP service for any medical emergencies that may arise. If we have mobility issues please tell us about them when you book. If you use a wheelchair or walking aid, please bring them with you.
Penny Brohn Cancer Care is not a nursing home registered by the local health authority and does not have facilities for providing dressings, medicines, drugs or treatments, including injections. You are asked to take full responsibility for ensuring that you bring any medication or dressings with you and that you lock them securely in your room during your stay.
The courses are held in a beautiful, peaceful and comfortable retreat just south of Bristol, set in 4 acres of landscaped gardens.
If you have mobility issues please tell us about them when you book. If you use a wheelchair or walking aid you will need to bring these with you.

We are situated within easy reach of the M4 and M5 motorways and Bristol International Airport. Bristol Temple Meads station and Bristol bus station are a 20-30 minute taxi ride away. Full directions are available from our website or by calling our switchboard on 01275 370 100.
