Who can we help?

We offer support and information for:

  • People with a cancer diagnosis
  • Supporters and carers
  • Health care professionals and complementary therapists

How can we help?

Our team of highly trained volunteers are here to listen to your concerns and needs. We can also give information on:

  • The ways in which you can support yourself
  • The Charity’s complementary approach
  • A range of therapies, through researched based information sheets
  • Details of other supportive organisations

 


 

How you can contact us

Call: 0845 123 23 10, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.00pm or leave a message and we will return your call to anywhere in Europe. Phone calls from the UK are charged at local rates.

What we cannot do:

  • We are not medically qualified and cannot offer medical opinion.  However, we can listen to your concerns and suggest other organisations if we cannot help.
  • We do not offer telephone counselling or ongoing support.

Confidentiality
We make every effort to offer a confidential service by:

  • Any information sent to you will be in plain packaging
  • If we return a call we announce ourselves as ‘from the Charity near Bristol’ or ‘From Penny Brohn’ until we know we are talking to the person who called us.
  • We are careful to return emails to the person that sent them and do not include the original message in our reply.
  • Not sharing your information with the rest of the Charity unless you ask us to (you will not be put onto our organisational database unless you want to be)
  • Confidentiality is between people who contact the helpline and the service (i.e. volunteers, Managers and supervisors), not between a caller and an individual worker.

More information

  • Our lines are run by volunteers supported by a paid Helpline Supervisor
  • We respond to approximately 10,000 enquiries a year
  • Our team have regular supervision to help them with the different aspects of working on a helpline
  • We are a member of the Telephone Helplines Association

Calls provided by BT will be charged at up to 4p/min at all times. A set-up fee of 3p/call applies to calls from residential lines. Mobile & other providers’ charges may vary. Calls may occasionally be listened to for training purposes.
